  1. Nerissa, I saw the segment on APL about Nebelungs, and that you guys live outside of Austin.

I used to have a Nebelung. I called her Spaz because when she was given to me as a kitten, she was very rambunctious. She was beautiful and later in life, she grew very affectionate... on her terms, of course. She had gained quite a bit of weight over the 7 years I had her.

I used to live in Austin, near the Canyon Creek area (near Anderson Mill) and she escaped from my apartment back in the later half of 2009 (around August) shortly before I moved in with the woman who is now my wife.

I'm not sure when you found Nona, but she looks exactly like Spaz, down to the facial expressions and the hanging belly. If it is Spaz, I'm not looking for anything. I'm just happy to know that she's ok. I have been worried about her since she ran out.

Either way, enjoy your little girl. She's blessed to have the set up she does with y'all. She's beautiful.

  2. Hi Ron,
We've had Nona since 2002. I'm sorry about your loss over Spaz.

  3. I enjoyed your segment about Nona, who may be related to our long lost (but older) Gracie. There are definitely some of these cats around Austin! Gracie was originally a rescue cat from around Sedgemoor Trail and Sanger Drive in Tanglewood Forest, off S. Manchaca Rd. My Russian Blue had disappeared, and I was meowing up and down the trails in the nearby woods. A beautiful little Nebelung kitten began to follow me. She looked well-fed and well-socialized, so I didn't try to catch her, but did lead her back to the neighborhood. When my Russian Blue came home a few days later, it was obvious that the little Neb had had a hard time. She followed him around whenever he went out, but had become phobic about people. It took me weeks to lure her in. Alas, she disappeared many years later from our Oak Hill home during remodeling. She was really not a feral cat, but was very autistic-like in her behaviors. She would hover at the threshold and meow from anxiety as she gingerly and repeatedly extended a paw to take the first step in, despite being hungry for the food right inside the door. It took years before I could pet her while standing (although she loved to approach when I was lying down.) My Gracie was fixed as a kitten, but looking at your sweet cat took me back. Incidentally, our girl grew a bit browner on her back as she reached age 10. We used to joke that we would have her stuffed once she passed, so that all the people who wanted to pet the elusive little thing could finally do so! Thanks again for sharing.
